Generally speaking, you should try to balance your diet to include foods from the pyramid below. Most of your diet should come from starchy carbohydrates such as bread, pasta, wholegrains and potatoes. Fruit and vegetables should form the next level up, with a minimum of 5 portions being consumed each day. For optimum nutrition however this should at least be double. Meat, fish and dairy should form a smaller but still significant part of your diet, with oils, fats and sweets forming only a small part.
